Last year, Nike Basketball unveiled the Air Zoom Greater Than (GT) series, consisting of three new silhouettes designed to help athletes create space by focusing on the most important movements of the game – running, jumping, and cutting. The silhouettes are aptly named GT Cut, GT Run, and GT Jump. Nike is now introducing the second generation of the G.T. Cut, the G.T. Cut 2.

The G.T. Cut 2 features an updated traction design with grooves that can be detached and snapped back to help players cut in quickly on the court. Other updates include a refined heel counter, a carved midsole that reduces the weight of the shoe, and a Zoom Air unit in the heel. Returning features include a full-length articulated Zoom Air strobel unit and a recessed React foam insole. The low-to-ground design also helps minimize pitch contact when switching directions.

“The GT Series is completely free from the traditional way of thinking,” said Ross Klein, Senior Creative Director of Nike Performance Footwear. “Grip mode is one of the elements that came out of the Nike Sport Research Lab on a microscopic level after studying the relationship between the pitch and the shoe. These teams were able to drive a new innovation that gave athletes the right amount of friction on the court so they could cut in faster, spin faster, and adjust their footwork with greater precision.

The Nike Air Zoom GT 2 will debut in the “Bred” colorway, with a release on Friday, September 16 Nike.com, followed by a September 20 release at select retailers. WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu will also get her own colorway, which will be on sale on October 13. Take a look at the two pairs below.
