Last night, Kyrie Irving was spotted on the pitch in Los Angeles wearing his next iconic Nike shoe, the Kyrie 8.

Now you might say, “Hey, Kyrie 8 came out last year!” But last year’s model was actually called Kyrie Infinity. As you may recall, when the Kyrie Infinity shoes were first leaked, Kyrie Irving himself took to social media to denounce Kyrie Infinity’s design, with his exact words being “in my opinion these are garbage.” A week later, Irving apologized for his comments, saying he and Nike were “working hard, restructuring and reimagining things to make sure we got it right.” Kyrie Irving confirmed in an Instagram comment this morning that the shoe is called Kyrie 8 and not Kyrie 9.

The design of the Nike Kyrie 8 doesn’t deviate much from Kyrie’s previous signature styles. Featuring a low-top layered mesh upper, it’s topped with a React foam midsole and an Air Zoom strobel. Other details include the name of Kyrie’s mother, Elizabeth Ann Irving, on the midsole toe, and the 8, 13, 11 and 23 Roman numerals sewn on the inside heel. 8 and 13 represent Kyrie’s mom’s birthday (August 13), while 11 and 23 represent his daughter Azurie’s birthday (November 23).

Notably, Kyrie Irving paired his Kyrie 8 with a full set of Nike apparel, in addition to his Donda athletic shorts. Prior to this, there were already rumors that Irving would leave Nike for Donda Sports once his deal with Nike was over. This will definitely add fuel to the fire.
