Nike’s “Winning Isn’t For Everyone” Campaign for the Paris Olympics
Nike has launched a new campaign titled “Winning Isn’t For Everyone” ahead of this year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
The campaign kicks off with a short film titled “Am I A Bad Person?” narrated by Willem Dafoe and featuring a collective of the world’s greatest athletes, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, LeBron James, Sha’Carri Richardson, Vini Jr., Serena Williams, Qinwen Zheng, A’ja Wilson, and the late Kobe Bryant.
The film serves as a reminder that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to win, especially on the world’s biggest stage. It does not make you a villain, unlike Willem Dafoe’s iconic villainous role as the Green Goblin.
“This is about celebrating the voice of the athlete,” says Nicole Graham, Chief Marketing Officer at NIKE, Inc. “It’s a story about what it takes to be the best. The legacies that have yet to be shaped. And the dreams that will be made real.”
The campaign builds on Nike’s mission statement created by the company’s co-founder Bill Bowerman: If you have a body, you are an athlete.
“Nike’s story starts with the athlete story. It always has. And it always will,” continues Graham. “‘Winning Isn’t for Everyone’ shows that anyone can be a winner, if they are willing to do what it takes.”
